„Long live the accomplished individuality!“

PAR Wine Award Greece 2015: Greek wine growers convince with high quality and enormous variety

Bad Dürkheim, March 2015 – Greece, the „cradle of the European winegrowing“ thrilled the experienced PAR-jury under the guidance of Martin Darting by the consistently high quality awareness and amasing variety of the products. Round about 70 wines from 18 different regions of Greece have been submitted for the tasting which has been carried out by WINE System AG for the fifth time. The so called „accomplished individuality“ of many producers has especially impressed the tasters. The overall winner Sauvignon Blanc 2013 - Domaine Florian from Thessaloniki – attracted special attention due to its extraordinary expressive power. It achieved 97 PAR points. Sweet wine Vinsanto 2005 – the specialty from the Domaine Sigalas on the Santorini isle – became Top Gold with 96 PAR points.

The extraordinary variety of Greek wine stems not only from the extremely different wine-growing regions but also from the wide spectrum of styles and grape varieties. Many of them are modern and internationally oriented, some of them are consciously kept traditional. Exactly this came true again during the Greek Wine Award this year. The niveau of submitted wines has been ranked very high. The tasters were especially pleased about the creativity of many producers. „Long live the accomplished individuality!“ concluded the head of tasting Martin Darting. „ We had an exciting tasting which partly recquired many debates. Due to a very wide professional team composition and incorruptness of the PAR system it was always provided that only professional arguments mattered for the assessment“ . Beside two Top Gold medals 21 Gold and 32 Silver medals have been awarded this time.

You will find the complete list of ranking including detailed wine descriptions, product specifications and recommended complementary dishes under www.greekwineaward.com

The winners will be officially honoured during the forthcoming ProWein 2015 in Düsseldorf. This event takes place on Sunday, 15th of March 2015 at 12 noon on the booth of VINUM (hall 13/ D106). Please visit www.winesystem.info/cms/termine.html for further information and dates. The tasting has been proceeded in accordance with the internationally recognised PAR method. The impartiality, transparency and fidelity for details of this approach are highly estimated by professional circles.

Frasdorf, 17th of October 2014 – Due to the ten geographically and climatically different wine-growing areas as well as due to a huge number of dedicated oenologists and wine growers Greece appears to be not only the cradle of the European viticulture but also brings extraordinary qualities and diversity of stylistics. Nevertheless the products of this traditional and old wine-growing country are not much known within Europe. WINE System AG organizes the fifth PAR Greek Wine Award in 2015 in order to change this situation. The tastings in accordance with the internationally recognized PAR-method will take place in Bad Dürkheim on the 07th and 08th of February 2015. Wine growers and retailers are welcome to register their wines till the 19th of January 2015.

Greek Wine Award 2015 is an internationally valued contest with a purpose to increase the level of awareness of Greek products and to provide their better promotion on the European markets. Applied PAR-method allows the wine growers to get the detailed analysis of their wines which clearly illustrates their strengths and weaknesses . This approach provides the objective view of the product and helps to streamline the production. This awarded event becomes increasingly popular among the retailers as well.

This contest offers an extensive orientation guide to the consumers. All tasting results will be well recorded in the database of WINE System AG. This enables the user to access all information about the outcome of the award before making the purchase decision. In addition various possibilities to filter the data make it more comfortable to find out the preferable flavour or to figure out which wine goes better with some certain dish. Please find further information and possibility to subscribe at www.griechischerweinpreis.de .

Rating in accordance with the PAR-method: an independent jury which consists of oenologists, sommeliers audited by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, wine consultants, will taste the submitted wines under the guidance of sensor expert Martin Darting and in accordance with PAR-method. This system ensures the independent assessment with 100-point-pattern which is based on the comprehensible documentation and demonstrates easily understood the final results as a composition of individual criteria. Personal preferences of the tasters do not influence the assessment. The tasting will pay special attention to the autochthonous grape varieties from Greece.
